limit of 10 clients

What is the reason for the limit of 10 clients? Is this arbitrary? Can it be increased? For my local school, 12 would be more useful.Monday, June 18, 2007 7:45 PM

I would hazard a guess that it's related to the 10 client limit on XP. If it is, not sure why. In which case it's arbritary and potentially subject to change.
It is a home oriented system though, and more than 10 simultaneous users is unlikely, In a non home environment, MS would expect a full blown server solution to be installed, which would be more useful, ie active directory, roming profiles etc.(things I would like at home too)Monday, June 18, 2007 9:26 PM -
My guess is that it more likely related to the licensing side of Win2003 server. As there is no ability to add additional CAL's (client access licenses), they would have gone for an arbitary expected maximim in a domestic situation.

There's also probably an element of "Don't cut into SBS sales." but the link to the blog posting is probably the best reason we'll get.Thursday, June 21, 2007 2:32 PMModerator

But my understanding is you can have multiple WHS on the same network so you could split it 50/50 or so which would still be a viable solution.

Let me know how that works. I'm out of boxes to play with, but I can definitely gut one if you get it working...Friday, June 29, 2007 4:38 PM
