Question on contents of the 70-648/649 Self Paced Training Kit RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am currently reading the Self Paced Training Kit for Transitioning your MCSA/MCSE to Windows Server 2008 by Orin Thomas and Ian McLean. I'm about 12 chapters in and I just noticed the page at the very beginning that lists objectives, chapters and lessons. There is one each for the 648 and the 649. I only hold an MCSA currently so I will be taking the 648. The way they have this chart broken down it appears that I will not be tested on chapters 11 - 16. Can anybody confirm if this is correct? Can I stop where I am and focus on Chapters 1 through 10? I plan to at least read them anyway since there is good material there but it would be fantastic if I had that much less material to master for the test. Here are chapter titles for 11 - 16 in case you don't have the book in front of you. :)

    11: Server Deployment and Activation

    12: Terminal Services

13: Configuring a Web Services Infrastructure

14: Configuring FTP and SMTP Services

    15: Hyper-V and Virtualization

    16: HA and Storage

    Thanks in advance - Joel

  • That’s correct.

It would probably still be beneficial to study the rest of the book, not because exam 70-648 contains questions on the content discussed in the rest of the book, but because you’ve purchased it so not reading it would be wasteful :-)

  • Thanks to both of you for your responses, and yes, I was planning to finish reading the book I have. :-)

Follow up question then. If the book I have is out of date but there isn't an updated version of it. What would you recommend for supplemental reading? I don't really want to buy the updated 640 and 642 just to pick 1 or 2 nuggets out of them.
