Windows 7 Build 7601 Showing not genuine after system restore RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased my computer about 3 years ago with Windows Vista installed.  It is a Gateway.  Just a few months later, they offered a free upgrade to Windows 7 which I took.  I have the Upgrade disks with the Product Key.  I have tried everything I can think of to correct the error, including sfc /scannow, system image recovery, system repair, system restore, and chkdsk /r.  I still get the message in the lower right corner saying my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine. Oh, Gateway will no longer offer support because of the age of my computer.

The problem lies with the file integrity.

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=20624

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

You got lucky - I think I discovered a cure for this last week :)

The problem almost certainly lies in the permissions for the AppData folder in the NetworkServices profile.
    Let's check

Open an Elevated Command Prompt window, and run the following commands

    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData
    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\Networkservice
    ICACLS C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles
    ICACLS C:\Windows
    ICACLS C:\Windows\System32
    post the results

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • We are already working on this on the other forum, Noel.  It had taken a while so I thought you had given up on it so I was trying here.  I'll discontinue this thread and work with you on the other forum.  I did notice that you asked me to do these commands on the other forums, but it did not include the first line.

  • I did wonder.... it was a little strange getting two such unusual errors at once, but it's been a little hectic around here :)

(When/if we solve it, I'll put a summary here for reference)
