  • The customer portal itself needs to have a public IP if you expect your customers to connect, but you can secure your CRM from the internet behind another firewall and are not required to expose it to the internet, nor even configure it for IFD.  The only requirement is that the web server hosting your portal needs to be able to access the CRM web services from the server that it is running on.
