Can't "find" computer from Homeserver website, while trying to access remotely. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Been working on getting everything set up and have successfully been able to port forward the router and set up back ups.

The problem is, accessing through the ****.homeserver.com website, I can't connect to the computers running Vista x64 HP.

The error says, "Remote Desktop can't find the computer "****-DESKTOP". This might mean that "****-DESKTOP" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to."

    I can connect to XP SP3 and W7 x64.

I have the windows server connector installed correctly. (I even removed the PC's from the server, uninstalled the connector and then re-installed, to no a'vail').

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  • Vista Home Premium doesn't accept incoming Remote Desktop connections, no.

  • I just read in another thread:

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whsvailbeta/thread/1ca61ac8-71d5-4ce8-bfd0-fcb1509a379c

I too am having the "unsupported OS" status by these PC's. And if the thread is correct and Vista HP doesn't support Remote Desktop, then I guess that would be why I can't connect.

  • OK, I spent $219 and upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate, uninstalled/re-installed the connector and now it states on the status "Connection is disabled"

Still can't access remotely, I can still access the old Win XP Pro..

    Thoughts?

Did you actually enable Remote Desktop after the upgrade?

  • Yes, both "check" marks, and allowed through firewall..

Can you access the computer via RDP without using the Vail web site?

What check marks are you referring to here? Enabling Remote Desktop on a
Windows 7 computer is done with a radio button, not check boxes.

  • I just posted a similar topic..maybe it's a WIN7 Ultimate issue? I'm using 64bit, could that be it?
