I have read several posts with links to solve problem with rogue XP spyware, but the links provided don't seem to be available. What gives?

I'm not sure what your message text means in relation to the subject line. If your PC is infected with spyware, you really need to address that before trying to install any security product.
Use an online scanner:

http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

On the other hand, your error message appears to be truncated.
