Can you have a forum that only allows New Threads - but Replies are disabled....

    Question

  •   We want to do this for several reasons.

    1.  A Wiki/FAQ Forum, where you only see the main documents.  We would permission 10-20 people to have edit rights to each other's posts (a different authoring access level - perhaps 'Editor' which has fewer rights than "moderator").  There would be no way to add a 'Reply' - people would simply edit the original post.

    2.  A suggestion box, where we don't want people to be able to comment on each other's suggestions.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!

I've brought it up internally not too long ago that having some wiki integration or wiki-like behavior would enable some nice scenarios for us. Not sure what it'd all look like, but its on the "what if" radar :)

The suggestion box is interesting as well. The voting infrastructure we built is capable of going beyond "helpful". Thinking out loud, we could enable a Suggestion type with community voting to gauge interest in that suggestion. One downside to locking replies would be if the user wanted to expand on a suggestion, they'd have to reference or duplicate the original.
