Office/outlook reporting that it is not valid- need help RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently had a hard-drive crash on my laptop that I use at work.  When I received the new one nothing was loaded, so I had our firm IT guy to re-install my programs from the server, and my files that we had saved from my old computer.  Everything worked great, except now I am receiving notification that my copy of office in not genuine. I have always had "genuine" microsoft products pre-installed on my computers, and our office apparently is running genuine software as well.  What can I do to fix the problem.

  • Hello Ahand76,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

    The report says you have a Blocked VLK, which means that (a) your Dell computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office XP Professional w/Front Page installed, and that (b) a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it.  A "blocked" VLK is one that was issued by Microsoft to a business, educational institution, or governmental agency for their exclusive use in accordance with a Volume Licensing Agreement.  (Note that such use does NOT allow the resale of such VLKs.)  However, because the VLK may have been reported lost, stolen, or compromised to the internet by the original keyholder, or because the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired, Microsoft has blocked the VLK from further use.

    If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing (VL) materials such as a VL instalation disc(s), and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.  You should have been sold Genuine retail licensed software.

    If your use of this Volume Licensing edition of Office XP Professional w/Front Page is in association with an organization that has a Volume Licensing Agreement, then please contact the IT support staff of the organization for further assistance.

    If your IT guy reinstalled Office from the server, and the Office installation files on the server that installed Office on your computer also installed Office on other computers in your company, then it is very likely that all other Office installations done with this set of installation files are also nongenuine installations.

    Is it possible that there was a mix up during installation and the wrong installations files and/or discs were used?  If that turns out to be the explanation, I would suggest destroying the discs that installed nongenuine Office to prevent this issue from occuring in the future.
