  • Question

  • Hi,

I am a bit confued about which one to go for.  As the new exam for web developers 70-515 is going to release tomorrow. My question is which one to go for? 70-515 look obevious choice howevere there isnt any books avail yet on this exam. MS press book is going to be released in Nov 2010.  so no use. I know someone has posted lots of msdn links for related objectives which seems to be the only source at the moment (thanks a lot for the help btw.)

On the otherhand 70-536 is a going to get old and on its own it does not have any qualifications so trying to think whats the best route.

If 70-515 then please share your ideas about how to study etc.

    Many thanks,

    Preyash

  • They are both *very* different exams. 70-536 is about the "Framework Foundation", so studying for this exam will give you a "base" preparation which is very useful for doing any kind of development under .Net. This is why it was required for all the certifications under .Net 2.0 and 3.5. However, it doesn't give you any certification all by itself, it requires an additional exam such as the one on Web Applications in order to get the TS:Web developer.

On the other hand, 70-515 will give you a certification all by itself. However, it only tests your ability to develop web applications, and not your knowledge of the basic Framework functionality. Even though it will grant you a certification as a Web developer, in my opinion this certification will be "devalued" as compared with the old one, since it accredits a smaller amount of knowledge.

I have passed 70-515 (during the beta period) and I only used MSDN to prepare for it; but then, I was already very experienced at this kind of development work, and I had already prepared for the previous versions of the Web Development exams, so I can't guarantee that MSDN alone will be enough for other candidates wanting to prepare for the new exam.
