Firewall with multiple NICs RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to exclude one of my network cards from the firewall.  It only connects to my media center extender through a direct so I see no reason for it to be behind the firewall.  Is there a way to do this?  I've looked and I don't see an option.

  • There is no option to exclude a network card. You can disable the network card, but that renders it useless to you.

However, I believe that going to the firewall setting and unchecking the option to "automatically set ... to public..." directly underneath the "on" radio selection and then identifying both networks as "Home or Work" will allow you to use both cards.

Multiple active NICs is a problem for OneCare's firewall, unfortunately, and will cause your PC to drop to "Public" mode as the second card typically gets classified as public.
