Media player virus !!!! RRS feed

  • General discussion

Your safety scanner that I just used found nothing wrong at all. Yet when I use media player for anything, (stream, movies, music, and anything that is default) I get directed to this site with no warnings... Not sure what is going on here, but I will paste the site I was directed to for you to analyze it and help others from making the same mistake. I am not a computer genius, however I am a GSP major (game and simulation programming) (2nd year) and have spent some time on computers. J

If I may as well, your scanner and many others do not detect windows font files that are corrupt. I watched sadly as the scanner ran through the font folder and didn’t see the file. I knew which one it was but your scanner did not. Any font file that is bigger than 95kb is weird IMO. With this being said here is the web site I keep getting directed to-www.missing-codecs.com. I may just be a complete moron but I thought I should run this past you.

After the entire last virus I got from an email stopped Windows Live One Care and uninstalled it while it was scanning the corrupted file. L

  • While the page you refer to exists, there's no actual content, but that's besides the point.

Have you taken a look at the list of installed codecs?  Anything suspicious there?

Also windows font files can get very large if you you want support for certain languages.

IMHO I don't think there's a connection between your fonts and WMP directing you to an empty web page.

  • If you are referring to the Windows Live OneCare Safety Scanner - http://safety.live.com will direct you to the online fre scanner - the forum for discussing it is here:

As noted in the other reply to your post, a redirect when using Media Player may well be due to the codecs you've installed.

If you are using Windows Live OneCare and you believe that you have been infected, but OneCare did not detect or cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.
