Quick Campaign Email error 0x80040251 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

After try to create a quick campaign all emails fail with error:

    0x80040251

    Transaction not started.

We have installed Rollup 10. Emails do work with our workflows so the email router is working. Bulk mailing is set on the accounts. Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks!

  • I had this exact issue. Microsoft Support provided the following fix:

Please back up the registry first.

Click > Start > Run > regedit to start the registry editor.

    Go to Local Machine\Sotware\Microsoft\MSCRM

Check for the following key: SDKSerializeSendEmailAPI

Let me know how it is set.

If it is set to 1 please change it 0 and test quick campaigns again.

  • We go to Sales -Contacts and filter for selected contacts. Then select the "Create Quick Campaign" from the top menu. Then select type email. When I look in Quick Campaigns I see it failed...the emails are in the "Contacts Excluded". I can open the email and then manually send it.

We're running the 32 bit version server. The mail router is installed and working (workflow emails work fine). The clients are set to allow email,  bulk mailing and send marketing materials.

  • When you filter your Contacts, include a few additional filters like:

    • Contact status = Active, or begin with the view Active Contacts
    • E-mail address field contains data
    • Allow E-mail = Yes
    • Allow Bulk E-mail = Yes

As a test, try the Quick Campaign on just three of the Contacts that meet the criteria above and see if it works.

You can also check the server application log for errors.

  • Hooray! Feel free to mark my post as the answer.

Yeah, it sounds like rollup 10 added this registry key, and then certain methods of bulk emails don't start a database transaction and this issue is the result. Had to start a case myself to fix it.
