Creating tasks in Project Web App get task type fixed work

Question

Hi,
when I add task in Project Web App to project they are created with task type fixed work. The project was created based on an enterprise project type that is not using a template.
How can I change the default to fixed units?
Thanks for any advice in advance
John

Hi Gary,
as I tried to describe:
If you create a project in Project Professional with setting "Fixed Work" in "File - Options - Schedule - Scheduling Options for this project - New tasks created ...", new task created in Project Web App will also get task type "Fixed Work". You are even able to save, publish and close this project.
You only get the issue, if you want to re-open. As you wrote, it becomes read-only in Project Web App because of fixed work tasks.

Hi,
I can't tell you how to change default for task type in Project Web App. Perhaps someone else can?
You can add column type to a project view to change it easily. But the reason for my reply without an answer to your question is curiosity:
My default task type is Fixed Units in Project Web App. Even more I can't edit any project in Project Web App, if any task with type Fixed Work is included? I wanted to verify your description.Regards

Hi,
thanks for your question. I have again learned somthing.
The default task type for editing in Project Web App is the same as in PP. You can define it on project level, default is retrieved by settings of the client used to create the project. You can change that in PP - File - Options - Schedule - Scheduling Options for this project - New tasks created ...
Hope that helps?
Regards
BarbaraP.s.: Funny, it is possible to create a task with Fixed Work in Project Web App and publish it. But you can't re-open it for editing in Project Web App because of this task type.

Once again, your system version information and patch levels are key to getting a good answer.

John:
Editing Projects in Project Web App does not support fixed work tasks. In fact, if your project cotains fixed work tasks, it becomes read-only in Project Web App. Where exactly did you create the task?

Hi Gary,
ok, you are right - perhaps I interpreted too much. I assumed that he was asking for Project view.... I could be wrong with that.
However, you piqued my curisoity and I have just checked for Insert Row - Create new task on task page. It is the same behaviour as for adding new tasks in project view. Task type for tasks cretaed there is also driven by settings "File - Options - Schedule - Scheduling Options for this project - New tasks created ..." in Project Professional.
For completeness I have checked what happens to a project plan created within Project Web App. Default task type for projects created in Project Web App is defined by setting in "File - Options - Schedule - Scheduling Options for this project - New tasks created ..." in Project Professional for Enterprise Global at the time this project plan is created.
