Sadly, if the files were backed up from D:\ on the other PC, they need to be restored to D:\ on the new PC. The only way this can be avoided is if the D:\ drive didn't exist at all on the new PC. You can't specify the destination for a restore, unfortunately.
You can manually extract the files from the backup zip files, but large files will need to be rejoined.
If your %System% drive is C:\ perhaps you can use Disk Management - Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management - to change the drive letter of D:\ to something else on the laptop, say Z:\, temporarily which may allow OneCare to prompt you for an alternate location to restore to.
