  • Question

  • When I bought new computer I installed Microsoft Money 2004 Deluxe which is what I was using on old computer.  I cannot get my files to open because my files are saying "Microsoft Money 2005" - never noticed that before.  Does anyone know of a fix for this?

  • It looks like you upgraded to Money 2005 at some point in the past.  Money 2004 won't open a file created by a newer version.

Have a look at the second "sticky" post in this forum:

and download and install the version that is appropriate for your region.  If that is US Sunset it's also a good idea to apply the patch that is described in the first "sticky" post in this forum:

After you install the downloaded version of Money, be sure to place your .mny file in your "Documents" folder.  Then just double-click on it and it should open.

This is also a good time to review your backup practices.  Be sure that you keep a copy of the file that you download so that you can re-install in the future. And be sure that you frequently save your .mny file and mbf files on some external media such as a DVD or flash drive in case you have a problem with you new computer.

Let us know if this works for you or if you have further questions.
