Genuine WinXP Pro problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a problem. I bought winxp pro oem which was obtained by microsoft seller but after I installed it it didn't ask me to activate. Now I had message that the system key wasn't provided by microsoft. Is there any chance that my oem is genuine but not recognized or should I just bring it back to the seller.

  • Milano,

First please follow the guidance Dan provided. Next you mentioned purchasing Win XP Professional OEM? Next where did you purchase Windows from?
Please answer the following questions. We do appreciate your post and help.

    Tell
us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows XP.

    1. What edition/version of Windows XP is titled?

    ·         Home

    ·         Professional

    ·         Media Center

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

  • Thats a fake VLK. demand a refund, and if they wont give you one, give the credit card company (or paypal or whatever you used to buy it wiht) a call. Then, file a piracy report (1-800-RULEGIT)

  • Milano99,

We request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the issue you may be having.

Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.

Step 2 is tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to the computer, or affixed to the outer boxtop of the retail XP packaging. Tell us:
    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, Media Center, or another version or edition of Windows?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key that may be printed on the CoA.

The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

  • Hi. Thanks for replys.

What I found out, the windows I bought of a bloke on trusted Forum website (who is telling me he sold loads of these and there was no problem since), is similar to small manufacturer pre-installed sticker. So i'm wondering, hasn't this been already installed in other computer and then somebody sold me the actual cd with coa? How can I found out if this product key was activated, or if it was at all? Another thing is, the tool for diagnostics says product key invalid. So is there any way how to know, if this is fake product key or it was already installed on other pc? Thanks a lot...
