Unable to activate Windows vista home basic, product key being identified as invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Windows Vista Home Basic version installed on  Lenovo Laptop. Bought the Windows OS along with the laptopn from Lenovo.

The OS was already installed and activated when the laptop was delivered, hence never tried to do anything else.

But now the system is asking to activate the operate system.

I entered the product key mentioned on the Certification of Authenticity sticker on side of the laptop. But this product key is being identified as invalid.

When I contacted lenovo customer care, they told me to contact Microsoft for help.

    Any help would be appreciated.

For some reason, your PC is unable to read the BIOS SLIC table which should be present - it seems to think it's a SLIX table!
Normally, the workaround for this is to use the COA Product Key on the sticker - but you say that you've already tried that, and it's said it's invalid.
I suggest that you try again - this time using good light, and a magnifier to read the characters - it's all too easy to get one character wrong and throw the system into a fit (I know - I've done it many a time!).

If it fails again, please let us know at exactly what stage you get the 'Invalid' message, and what the exact wording on the label is, but do NOT post your whole product key, merely the last group of 5 characters.

  • Hi buddy,

I really appreciate the way you represented your problem. I faced the same problem which was 100% same. I myself was able to resolve my problem through this post. So i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. So I would like to say you that just see the papers you got when you buyed the laptop. See the product key and enter it in the product key section. I suggest that you try again - this time using good light, and a magnifier to read the characters - it's all too easy to get one character wrong and throw the system into a fit (I know - I've done it many a time!). I also tried the hit and trial method as soon as it got the right key it will ask you for internet connection. Give the internet connection by wifi and then wait for activation through internet. It will give you activation. If still you need help from my side call me at my cell {redacted] and ask for Dilip. You can reach me via email also. My email address is [redacted] or [redacted] or [redacted].
