  • I appologize if this question has already been answered, but i could not find it: What if I already have my own regitered domain and do not want to use the <myservername>.homeserver.com? what are the steps to use it instead? Will WHS support third level and fourth level domains?

  • If you want to use a domain you already own, you will have to manage it yourself. Windows Home Server includes a dynamic DNS client that's designed to work with Microsoft Live Domains (and OEM servers may have other DDNS clients as well), but there is no way to change the client being used to an arbitrary one.

If you switch from the Microsoft (or other built-in) vanity URL, you'll also have certificate errors (the remote access web site uses an SSL certificate which is wired down to your vanity URL and can't be changed). You'll need to obtain and install a new certificate, which is unsupported but doable.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
