A problem occurred when windows tried to activate. error code 0xC004F063

Question

Hi,
I have a HP pavilion which came with win 7 home premium pre-installed and i have been running it for months without any issue. I have not change anything hardware wise. yesterday my screem went black and i keep getting a popup saying my windows is not genuine. i tried to validate the product key but got the error in the title, it also says my bios is missing something?
I need this fixed! i have called a few MS numbers but no one seems to be able to help.. which from a customer service point of view is a joke.
this should be fixable from my computer, i should not have to jump through a hundred hoops to activate a perfectly legal copy of windows.
i ran this because i saw people who posted were told to:

Windows License Type: OEM SLPThose two lines indicate your problem with this key, that key IS and OEM_SLP key, not an OEM COA key. Please search google for that partial key and you will see what I mean. It will show up as the key below which is a commonly know SLP key.

Somehow you have confused the key above with the key on the sticker, the key on the sticker is the one you have to have.
Let me put it this way, if that was an OEM COA, system builder or retail key, which is supposed to be unique then you would not be able to google it unless the key was somehow leaked. I CAN google your key so therefore it is not the key from the sticker.

Try this. Let us know if it works.
USE COA KEY/ACTIVATE BY PHONE
Look on the bottom of your computer for a COA sticker, it may be inside the battery compartment, install that key by navigating to system properties in the control panel (or pressing pause and win keys at the same time), scroll to the bottom of the page and click on change product key.
Now, activate by phone
Activate by phone
1. Type "slui 4" in the start menu search box, hit enter
2. Select country or region
3. Dial the number, DO NOT select any menu options, just wait and a person will pick up.
4. activate by phone.

Is a coa key the same as a product key? i have my product key but the sticker that you tell me to locate has all the info worn off it.. its on the underneath of my laptop, bad picture but you see what i mean

The key you need is the one on the sticker you say is worn off. Sorry, but the other key must be an OEM SLP key if you are getting that error, probably the same key in the report.
Do not post any of these keys to be on the safe side. From where did you get your copy of windows, did it come with the computer and was the computer new or used?

i have the key from the sticker saved and it is this one
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-73CQT-WMF7J-3Q6C9
this is a bought new hp pavilion and it had win 7 home premium on it, it was running perfect for nearly a year and one morning ( yesterday ) it decides its not genuine.. im lost but also now see why there are so many anti MS people.. this is ridiculous, i might as well just do a clean linux install. at least if i have problems with that there are ways to fix it

Ok makes sense.. So i have the wrong key, I don't know how i ended up with this key as i remember when i wrote it down because it was the only copy i had ( no restore CD's or windows disks supplied..
So can my manufacturer help with a proper key given my serial and model? I have a restore pack ordered from HP for my exact model of laptop, im hoping this has a Win 7 disk in it as the computer just came with a restore partition which never worked. will the restore pack possibly fix this? by either a clean install or buy usein the key on the disk i recieve?
Thanks for the help and sorry if i was a bit abrupt, i thought i understood a bit about computers but i coundn't figure this out so began to get annoyed with it

Hello |1ttledb,
By design the recovery discs would install a fresh new installation of Windows onto the computer without a problem.
However, if the root cause of your original problem is corrupted or otherwise unreadable BIOS marker data, then this same problem may very well prevent the installation of Windows installed by the discs from self-activating. Windows reading this data is what allows it to self-activate upon its original installation and then subsequently continue to pass its own internal random activation checks. If Windows cannot read the data, it goes into a nongenuine status. The workaround to not being able to read the data is reactivation with the CoA product key over the phone, but your dilemma is that you can no longer read the product key on the CoA.
There's only one way to find out if the clean install from recovery discs is going to work.....

Ok thanks guys, I'll have to give it a try with a clean install so.. I'll let you know how it goes. Btw is there a way of me knowing straight after the install whether it works? or will i just have to wait the 30 days..Monday, October 4, 2010 7:11 PM

Did you visit www.microsoft.com/genuine The reason I ask is that WAT is not installed and would have been had the site validated properly.
As I read the report you are succesfully activated however not Validated. If you do not need to validate that is fine, WAT is a voluntary update but it is required for some premium downloads such as MSE.

If i go here will it ask me for the key i dont have and go back to "non genuine" once i don't supply it.. I thought i got it but now im not sure, i just want my laptop back to normal ;)
EDIT: Ok so took a chance and went to www.microsoft.com/genuine and it validated! please make this be it finished with?
