MCDBA vs MCITP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I am planning to go for MCDBA certification. But i have very few knowledge about the exam . I have read somewhere about the expiry of MCDBA. So is it that if now i opt for MCDBA then that certification has already expired and thus no need for going for that exam.

Please do guide me about this. What is the exact path to go for SQL Server database administration?

    Thanx

You will be unable to gain the MCDBA certification as most, if not all, of the required exams have been retired.  With that in mind, you have two other routes that you can go down:

MCITP: Database Administrator 2008 (for SQL 2008), you have to pass the following exams: 70-432 & 70-450 or
MCITP: Database Administrator (for SQL 2005), you have to pass the following exams: 70-431 & one of the following 70-443 or 70-444

See here for the MCITP routes:  http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-sql-server.aspx#tab3
And the required MCTS exam here: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-sql-server.aspx#tab2

    Hope this helps :)
