Windows 7 Ultimate installed from Get Genuine Online Kit - I'm getting not genuine error now. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was initially a victim of counterfeit software when I purchased Windows 7.  I reported it to Microsoft and they had me send in my counterfeit copy, which they replaced with a Get Genuine Online Kit for Windows 7 Ultimate - this came directly from Microsoft so I know it is not counterfeit (or else Microsoft has some serious problems).  I installed the one that they sent me and it has worked great for about 9 months.  Just last night I turned on my computer and it installed some updates and then it told me that my operating system is not genuine!  How can this be?  Please help!  My COA number is 6000193066-6-W009870-TMEX.  I ran the genuine diagnostics tool and I get the following:

  •  Licensing Data-->
C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid.

You appear to have some corruption, probably in the registry.

    Try this first...

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

  • OK - we'll have to check for system errors, then....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

    Click on
Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

    Select
Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt -
the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     CHKDSK C: /R

     and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at the next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size  of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally  (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

    Select
Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

     At the Command prompt, type

     SFC /SCANNOW

     and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please!) to your OneDrive or DropBox Public folder, and post a link - also post a new MGADiag report.

  • Yup - with any luck, all you need to do now is re-activate your license.

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

  • Wow, you're good!  Activation worked and everything seems to be back to normal!  Thanks a million!  I've never used a forum like this before - your posts say you don't work for Microsoft or its contractors - so do you do this out of the goodness of your heart or what?

  • I do this because I was once in the same position as most posters here - and came to a forum for help....

I ended up getting addicted to helping out :)

My 'pay' is the good feeling I get when I cure a problem - and the extra knowledge I gain from doing so. Some days are good, and some are frustrating (some extremely so, depending on the problem and the poster) - butat least I learn something every day, which hopefully keeps senility at bay :)

    Good luck!
