Something’s obviously changed – your error message now means something! You should just need to activate the system. If Internet activation fails, use telephone activation.telephone activation (operator calls)Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

SSDT PmRef CpuPmYou have a Trusted Store Tamper.Such tampers are usually the result of a bad driver update, or malware.Have you installed any new drivers lately? new applications?Have you had any problems with malware? – is your Anti-Virus up-to-date? (what is it?)Try a System Restore back to about 4-5 days ago, if you can – does that help? (you’ll have to consider reinstalling any programs installed since the date you restored back to)

Hi I have tried a system restore which failed..
that gave me an error code 0x80071a91
my son says he installed a program called gimp which is a GNU image manipulation program.
Am using AVG free edition which is up to date and has found no virus after a scan.
I cant recall updating any drivers except maybe the Elan software for the touchpad.
I am very confused!

Looks like we’ll have to do without System Restore then – for interest, please run the following command in a Command Prompt window...SC QC VSSand post the results in your reply. Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free edition - www.malwarebytes.org ) and update it – do NOT activate the Real-time protection offer.Run a Full System scan in your main account, and Quick scans in all other accounts.Reboot, and run another MGADiag report – post the result.

A little searching gave this suggestion for repairing System Restore – it may or may not work, but it’s almost certain that any SR points will be toast afterwards.Open an Elevated Command Prompt window and enter the following command at the promptfsutil resource setautoreset true C:\

Resource? – or privileges? If the latter, then you were running in a normal Command Prompt window, rather than an elevated one.If indeed it was ‘resource’ then I’ll do some more research and see what I can find – please give the EXACT error message when you try it.

Great - that looks OK as far as I can tell (it looks pretty much the same as mine, that is <g>)Reboot when you get a minute, and try creating a new Restore Point

They good news is that the Trusted Store tamper timestamp hasn’t changed – hopefully that means that whatever broke the system is no longer still operational. Now we have to try and fix the cause.Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key
You will be told that the drive is locked, and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot. The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!
After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC
SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
run another MGADiag report, and post the results. If the SFC scan reports errors that it couldn’t fix, please upload the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file to your public SkyDrive folder and post a link to it in your response.

The report is the sameThere’s only one actual error in the CBS log – the file C:\windows\SysWOW64\winrm.vbs could not be repaired because the backup was also corrupt. However, as far as I can tell, that problem has nothing to do with your activation problem. Please try recreating the Licensing Store – it may give more information, even if it doesn’t cure the problem.Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Something’s obviously changed – your error message now means something! You should just need to activate the system. If Internet activation fails, use telephone activation.telephone activation (operator calls)Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.

Okay i think we have success! It activated online! Whoop!
I then restarted and got a scary screen saying location not detected or something and a very limited desktop, restarted again and it seems to be back to normal now!
I hope that other error in the CBS log isnt going to come back and bite me!
Thankyou for your help :)

Please post a new MGADiag report – you’ll need to get the CBS error sorted out in the Windows Answers forums (my head hurts with the other CBS log threads to do with WGA!) – then we can check that everything is truly OK as far as activation/validation is concerned.

That looks a LOT better – one final thing to do is to get rid of the 0xC004C533 error.go to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what happens – when it passes, you should be offered MSE and IE9 (you don’t have to take them!).
