Custorm Application configuration editor RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have multiple projects to deploy on single installation. During the installation, I would like users to be able to browse configuration file from each projects and modify any settings in there. For this, I need to create a separate .config editor application in windows. Can anyone suggest me a way to achieve this. I can write an application that can simply read and write app.config or xml file. But handling for multiple projects...I need some clue as to what should i follow Thanks in advance!!

  • Hi eitar,

I would implement a custom SettinsProvider for this specific need:

    Thanks,

  • Hello Muhammad,

Thank you for your suggestion. I would appreciate if you could elaborate more on this methodology. I wonder if you are asking me to create a custom settings provider that contains all the configuration settings for different projects, store the data and provide the users a facility to edit all of the configurations from one point. I would also like to be able to allow users to test their connection string after they have put in the database details during runtime.
