active an OEM copy using genuine product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought and OEM copy of windows 7 home premium 64 bit and installed on my nettop the other day. Also, I bought a new laptop with same version of windows 7. My question is, I don't want to use OS that come with laptop which has a lot of useless sofware and want to do a clean install. Can I use my OEM copy and applied the genuine key at the back of my laptop?

I tried yesterday and it gave me "product key is invalid".

  • Hi alistairfang,

If you are getting that error then it's unlikely we'll get it to work.  I recommend reinstalling using the Recovery Software that came with the laptop.  Often times the recovery software won't have any (or as much) of the useless software.

    Thank you,

  • Hello alistairfang,

What version and edition of Windows is listed on the new laptop's Certificate of Authenicity (CoA)?

  • Hello alistairfang,

Could you run the mgadiag utility on the nettop and post?
