Your are not alone.... Allthough I think the only way out is a server restore you might also want to check out this thread.

No home server like Home Server

  • Is your server an OEM unit from e.g. HP? So that it's truly headless, without any way to connect keyboard, video, and mouse? In that case there is no real alternative to attempting a server recovery.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Yes it is a HP media smart server

Will server recovery work, or will it need a factory reset............

  • I have seen this before....

This was from an older post.    Seems crazy but I think somebody says it worked...

major issue - Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 12:19:38 AM
I did this to my WHS too.

What I did was using the keyboard blindly entering the following keys:

    - enter "windows + R", this opens the run dialog
    - enter "ncpa.cpl" this opens up network connections dialog
    - now assuming you only have one network card you press the down arrow key once and press enter, this should enable the network card again

I tested this on another PC (XP and Vista Ultimate) with display on. If it doesn't work maybe you are at the login screen, therefore you need to press ctrl+alt+del and enter your WHS admin password first.

Hope this helped you !! It worked for me and I learnt to think twice before disabling a network card.

  • I don't have a keyborad, so I can not try your keystroke solution

Is it possible to install a second network card........

  • I dont own an HP WHS box so I am just guessing.    You may need to reboot it after plugging in the keyboard.     I would think it should detect a USB keyboard being it is Win2003 unless HP did something with this to prevent it from working.....     But I would think it should work.

  • If I'm not too late to the party you might try this. If you are handy with tools you might be able to make a VGA cable for your HPMMS and then be able to get you going without having to do the rebuild trouble.

Link2 : Some where in this thread (page 2?) is the list of parts the guy used to make his connector. Worth a read so you know what you are up for.
