Office document could not be opened

Recently I formated c drive due to virus problem. After finishing all the softwares i couldn't open any of the files. If i try to open a file it asks for type of encoding. Which ever encoding I choose it shows garbled texts. Can anybody help me out? I am in deep trouble.
