Too many activations? Error 0xC004C020

Question
-
I installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit on my MacBook Pro via Boot Camp, with a genuine product key (I got a copy free through a student programme at Uni).
Everything has worked fine for months, but a few days ago Windows started trying to activate again, and now it can't, saying error "0xC004c020 - The activation server reported that the Multiple Activation Key has exceeded its limit".
As far as I can see this is effectively telling me this copy of Windows/product ID has been activated too many times - problem is, I've only ever reinstalled once, after Apple had to replace the HD in my MBP under warranty.
It's definitely a genuine product ID, and it's tied to my .ac.uk email address - it's not as if anyone else has the same ID, and I haven't shared it with anyone.
How many times SHOULD I be able to activate Windows? It's not my fault if I have to reinstall <x> amount of times due to faulty hardware, surely?
The only thing I can think that may affect it is that in OS X I run VMWare Fusion, and sometimes use that to boot my Boot Camp partition as a virtual machine, but I'm not sure why that would cause activation issues? Remember my problem here is not that I couldn't activate at all, it's specifically that Windows thinks I've activated too many times.
Thanks a lot.

According to your MGA report, you have a hacked, counterfeit copy of Windows installed. You need to purchase a genuine "Full Version" edition of Windoews and perform a "clean install". The
Microsoft Store has genuine Windows editions availble for purchase. As an alternative, you can reinstall the Windows operating system that originally came with your Dell computer.

Hello Moykul,
Please do not piggyback on someone else's post. Please start your own, new thread and copy your report into that new thread.
Thanks!
PS--Your installation of Windows 7 onto you Mac was done with a Volume Licensing edition of Windows, which are upgrade-only licenses. In your new thread, it might be helpful to explain what installation of Windows on your Mac was upgraded to W7.

The Key is a volume Key. The Dell motherboard has no Windows SLIC table. The system has been hacked to circumvent activation and validation requirements. You should reformat and reinstall using legitimate software - either using the Recovery media that came with the machine, or a legal Full Retail copy of Windows purchased from a reputable dealer.

How is a US site going to help a user in Pakistan, Carey?
[edit]
Hmm - I see that dell have at last made it a little simpler to find assistance in that area. The site is still pretty useless for backupdisks for anywhere except the US, though

There don't appear to be any obvious problem sin your report.
If you are seeing a non-genuine problem, or cannot activate, please install teh KB971033 WAT update from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
then run a new report, and post it in a NEW THREAD of your own.
