I get an error message when trying to install sql server 2005 express. Unknown exit code 28086. Evidently I cant download sql 2005 express from msft anymore, so I downloaded 2008. Problem is that the CRM installer doesn't see that sql is installed. any ideas? This is during the CRM 4.0 installation CD. It is a nightmare.

  • i don't think SQL2005 express runs on Vista, it does not say that in the requirnments (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=220549b5-0b07-4448-8848-dcc397514b41&displaylang=en)

Are you sure the SQL services are all running?

  • well, I succeeded in installing but only after reformatting the hard disk! I think even though I follow the remove sql instructions, there are still remnants of sql/crm that are somewhere (registry?). In any case, I'm slogging through the application now.

  • Ouch, that is NOT a solution to a problem.  I think there was something in the user profile that could have been giving you a hard time.  The Outlook Client is supported on Vista so you should not have had to reformat.

  • BTW, SQL 2008 express is now supported for the Outlook client.
