Conversation History not Persistent in Cached Mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using MOC 2007 (build 6090), I've noticed that although the Conversation History folder is created in Outlook 2007, the history items are not preserved.  I can reproduce this behavior on 2 different machines with 2 different logins.  When the IM conversation is closed, an item appears in the Conversation History folder (as expected).  However, after a short time the item disappears.  You can accelerate this by using Shift+F9 to force synchonization of the folder, which tells me it must be related to cached mode.

I haven't had a chance to test without cached mode yet, but I wanted to post this to see if anyone else has experienced the issue.  I'll update this after I get some time to test without cached mode.

  • More info.  I just noticed the below info in my Sync Issues folder:

    15:20:32 Synchronizer Version 12.0.4518

    15:20:32 Synchronizing Mailbox '<my name>'

    15:20:32 Synchronizing Hierarchy

15:20:33 Synchronizing local changes in folder 'Conversation History'

    15:20:33 Uploading to server '<Exchange FQDN>'

    15:20:33 Error synchronizing message 'Conversation with <user 1>, <user 2>'

15:20:33                                 You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.  See the folder contact or your system administrator.

15:20:33 Moved a message that failed synchronization to 'Local Failures'. Message subject -> 'Conversation with <user 1>, <user 2>'. You can view this message in your offline folder file only.

    15:20:34 Done

I am able to manually move items into the Conversation History folder and synchronize them successfully, so it's not a permissions issue.  My test environment is shut down for now, so I'll try without cached mode tomorrow.

  • Hi zj4x4,

Can you let us know how your test without cached mode went?

  • I just tested this again.  It seems like the problem only occurs when multiple Outlook clients are running at the same time in cached mode.  I ran the test again with only one client running and it worked fine.  However, conversation history is not saved when running in online/non-cached mode.  I haven't investigated this to see whether or not this is expected behavior.

  • Disregard part of my last post - even with no other Outlook clients the item in the Conversation History folder was removed and an event was logged in my Sync Issues folder.  Must be a bug.

  • Hi,

Could you confirm your configuraiton please.

You have 1 instance of Outlook running, and one instance of Communicator 2007, correct ?

They are both logged in to the user account, correct ?
