Activated Vista... now asking for Activation again!

Question
-
I bought a genuine copy of Vista about a month ago from Harris Technology. I activated it when I installed it and now several weeks later, it tells me I have 2 days left to activate! I told it to activate again, but it says the product key is in use! I'm thinking that it is saying that because I have I already activated before.
PLEASE HELP!

It seems that updating your Nvidia Nforce4 Serial ATA drivers stuffs your hardware ID.
Here's the fix for all you Vista users:
1. Go to: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click "Validate Windows"
2. On your PC go to: Computer > "System Properties" then activate Windows.
Now the activation WILL work.
Don't bother ringing M$ for help, they just stuff you around & hang up abruptly.Friday, March 9, 2007 9:36 PM -
Is the copy actually installed already on another computer, or is that what the automated system told you? If it's only on your computer, please try phone activating again and talk with a person when you're given the option. Thanks!Tuesday, March 13, 2007 11:19 PM

It sounds like a driver or hardware changed your hardware ID enough to ask you to reactivate. Would you try phone activation? You can type "slui 4" in a command prompt to get started. Thanks!Thursday, March 8, 2007 1:37 AM

I just tried your sugesstion. It didn't work! The IDs didn't match (or something like that) and the person I was talking to on the phone rudely hung up on me before I could tell her.
I need this fix ASAP... my Vista install will be inactive if I don't do it TODAY!
I thought buying legitamate software means that I can use it without being restricted!

Don't worry, I fixed it myself. It seems that public forums know more than the actual company that develops the software.Friday, March 9, 2007 5:32 AM

I ran into the same issue yesterday. How did you fix it?
I so would appreciate any insight.
Thanks,

Had exactly the same problem (almost) although I didn't get any grace period. 2 days after getting vista activated and validated on my machine I went on a business trip. Got back home yesterday - turned on the computer (only computer that I own) to be told the activation period had expired.
Tried to activate it but - of course - the product key is already in use.... of course it is... it is on use on my **#(*&$ computer :(
Tried to activate by phone... only to be told that I couldn't - the copy is installed already on another computer.
No hardware has changed on my machine, nothing except not turning it on for just over a week. I'm really beyond frustrated by this nonsense.
The thing that worries me most is that I was planning on upgrading the hard drives and graphics card later this week... probably the thing'll stop working again immediately...
I dread to think what will happen when I reinstall and then try to reactivate my genuine Office 2007 afterwards...
