Outlook 2007 passes, but Excel 2007 and Word 2007 don't RRS feed

  • Question

  • My paste of the diagnostic tool output is provided below. If I am reading it correctly, it says that my Office Outlook 2007 is genuine, but that the product key used to install Office Excel 2007 and Office Word 2007 is not. The same product key was used for all three products though, so I am confused why it passes for Outlook, but not for Excel or Word. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

  • Hello Ruzzelvon,

As I read the OGA section and the Other Data section of the report, these three Office family products, Word, Outlook, and Excel, were installed as three standalone products and not component parts of an Office installation.

Therefore, it would be impossible for all three to use the same product key, as they are installed as three different products and not three components of one Office installation.

  • Hello Ruzzelvon,

All of the Microsoft products on your Dell Dimension C521 computer are volume licensing products.

Usually that means the computer is being used in a business, educational, or governmental organization that is large enough to participate in Microsoft's volume licensing agreements.

Such organizations have IT Staff to handle the issue, so please report the problem to your IT Staff.

If you are an individual consumer not associated with that kind of organization, however, your use of these volume licenses would almost always be a nongenuine use of the installed software, regardless of whether it reports as genuine or not.

In the case of the computer itself, if the computer still has a certificate of Authenticity affixed to it, chances are excellent that it is still licensed to run the version and edition of Windows described on the CoA, and getting that corrected is not an insurmountable task.

In the case of the Office applications, physical possession of some variety of a Certificate of Authenticity and/or genuine hologrammed Office discs for Office and/or individual Office applications would help you Get Genuine.

  • I do work for a large business that has volume licenses, and I reported the problem to my IT staff. They said that since the product key is valid, they will probably have to reformat my hard disk, and reinstall everything. This is a major league pian in the butt. I thought there might be a known problem of the same product key being reported as genuine for some office products (i.e. Outlook) and not genuine for others (i.e. Excel and Word). All 3 were installed at the same time, from the same CD, with the same product key, so it makes no sense that one is genuine and the other two are not.
