Is there a way to tell the parent of a comment when indenting flatens?

Question

Indented replies help show which message in under which message. But there is a limit to how much indenting is done, in which case it is hard to tell to which message it is responding.
1
..2
....3
....4
Is 4 another reply to 2 or a non-indented reply to 3?

Hello Brian,
Thank you for your post! Unfortunately I am not able to determine which forum or newsgroup is best suited for your question at hand. Can you provide me a little more detail in regards to the product or technology you are inquiring about?
Thanks!

The forums themselves.

Give the flat view a try, after they fix the ordering bug. I never have much of a problem figuring out which response matches which post. Or finding the most recent post. As long as threaded view cannot be toggled on-the-fly, it is not much use.

Yes, *after* they fix it. I can use a flat view, but threaded can be better.Tuesday, July 14, 2009 12:55 PM

I really love that reply from the MS Moderator. These are forums; they have messages and replies and the replies are indented. Also Brian has posted on-topic messages here before (and recently).Surely it's not that difficult to guess that this question is about the forums !
