OneCare shows firewall conflicts within itself and Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • Steve:     All 'history' now... I figure the older OneCare beta2 was lingering in the background and likely messing with my paid subscription installation.  (Or.. a recent HP or Windows Vista update put me in this position, eg:   OneCare said Firewall was 'on'.  Windows Vista said firewall also 'on' and yet my Onecare status had me flagged 'red' for unable to start the firewall and my Status was considered 'At Risk'.  (Huh??)

Anyway, it's been 'turfed' now and I now cannot reinstall OneCare onto my laptop.  Seems my administrator privilege has somehow been stripped away and the 'OneCare Cleanup' tool cannot finish either.  I'm  'Hooped' as we say.

Can you tell me if a 'saved' OneCare download can be run more than for a single install (or should I delete that and go for another clean download of Live OneCare (same download)?  The original saved download hunts for updates, runs, but will never complete (error displayed is #0019-80070643).

  • Hi, Bill.

The 0019 error means that you are unable to install the firewall, which certainly sounds related to your original problems.

The cleanup tool should be saved to your desktop and then right click and select Run as Administrator.

You should download a new installer - http://onecare.live.com - it's not large, but the rest of the program is large.

You'll also want to see this KB article for the 0019 error you are now encountering - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930159

And, finally, you can contact support if needed -

  • I had the same problem with not being able to turn on thee onecare firewall and ended up spending last evening reloading vista OS.

Now I have an alert for the windows firewall popping up and problems with my password entry, I have no password, yet I am locked out because it is asking for a password.

I have an alert from the 'security center' to turn on my firewall, yet the onecare firewall is alreaady on.

This is the same road I went down yesterday which led to hours of re-installing OS. Please fix this. Please send answer.
