off topic - Cannot turn on automatic updates RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I have purchased my Dell laptop through my graduate program ITS department.

I am wondering how to turn on Live Automatic Update.  When I go to that menu, in the

Control Panel menu, I cannot select anything.  Everything is all gray and non-selectable.  I believe the ITS department did something where I cannot turn on the Automatic Live Update myself.

I do recall calling Microsoft update a while back, and they told me to go to MSConfig and to delete a certain file.  And the Auto Update worked.

    Let me know.

You're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare.

Contact the IT department as I believe you will find that they have configured the laptop to use Update services controlled by the University - hence the deployment of Group Policy settings that restrict your access to AU in Control Panel.
