  • dont know if this is the correct place to post this, if not please direct me to the correct place. thanks.

my computer came installed with windows, but i was given the reinstallation cd. a couple days ago i had to reinstall windows using the cd. and when i tried to activate it, i had no success. tried over the phone, and the internet.
over the internet it just says the key is invalid. over the phone it mentions that the ID is for machines that come with windows installed and tells me to change product key, so i follow the steps and nothing happens.

  • Have you tried running through our diagnostics website first? www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag - this may be able to help with your OEMSLP activation issues.

I'm sorry for the trouble you're having to go through right now Sad. Looking at the diagnostics report and what you're saying, (correct me if I'm wrong) - but it looks like you've reinstalled with the Dell Recovery CD, is that correct?

The activation issues you're having, (since they can't be fixed by the diagnostics website) can't be fixed here on the forum. There may be some hardware issues you're having, i would suggest following the "file a support request" link on the diagnostics website  you went to earlier.
