antivirus xp 2008!

  my laptop was just infected with this virus.  I used the safemode to get rid of it.  I found it on two different program files in my harddrive.  Now my laptop wont connect to internet, ever so often the screen goes to a black DOS screen, and something weird....my ablity to change my desktop settings are gone.(the antivirus xp 2008 pop up was glued to my desktop before I got rid of it).  can somebody PLEASE impart some wisdom to me.
