1. Unalbe to start meeting from outside network

I use live meeting client to start a meeting from outside network,

  I put access edge external fqdn in external server name or ip address which is external.ocslab.fw.nu:443, and I test connection, the loging information was verfied.

but when I click "Meet Now" button to start a meeting, it propmt join error dialog:



   Live meeting cannot connect to the meeting,

   Wait a few monments, and then try to join meeting again.

Can you check you eventvwr for errors (type eventvwr in your run application box from the start menu) or turn your Live Meeting logging on (it's a registry setting:refer to the live meeting deployment guide to find out the right key setting) and see if you can find more detailed errors.

The following ports should be accessible on the Edge server:

1. from the internet to all edge roles 443

2. from Edge to the internet and from the internal network to the internet: SIP-MTLS (5061)

3. ports 50000 - 59999 (tcp, but also udp) from the internet to A/V edge and the other way around.

4. STUN/UDP (3478) from the internet to A/V Edge.

I check sip stack logs on front server, find the issue, but don't know how to resove it.

I get this error too.. but my clients are internal...

I'm seeing this error in my SIP logs as well.

Communicator can connect and IM perfectly fine through the Edge Server. It also downloads the address book successfully, so the reverse proxy is operational. Whenever I start a Live Meeting externally I get the same error as bove though and it fails to connect. Internally Live Meeting is completely functional.

I have zero firewall filtering happening.

Yep, I've followed that already and the external FQDN is set. I know the external download URL works just fine - I can access the tshoot.html file externally. I guess I'm not technically following the exact deployment scenario as this is without ISA in place.

All of my server validation checks come back with no errors or warnings. The SIP trace logs on the external client have no errors or warnings for both Communicator, LiveMeeting and the ConfAPI files.

On the internal OCS I see this error in the event logs "Failed to connect external users because the list of proxies is empty". I guess my next step is try with ISA, but I was really just trying to see if this could be done without the reverse proxy.

You need the reverse proxy to log on to live meeting if you are connecting via the external OCS pool. Live Meeting will check if it can find the content upload server (on the internal OCS frontend server) which should be accessible from the outside.

If the list of proxies is empty it looks like the External url for content download or the Group Expansion url is unreachable.

Check if you can reach the external url filled up in the Group Expansion tab of the web components properties of your internal OCS frontend (Forest > Standard Edition Server > OCS pool name --- Properties > Web Components Properties

Also check in the status Tab of your internal OCS frontend if all the external url's shown there are accessible from the outside.

I am experiencing this same issue (among others) and suspect it may be related to the certificates. I followed the MS Edge Server Deployment Guide and requested my certificate (as stated on page 68) using the Internal FQDN of the EDGE server. We are using a Single Site Edge topology since our firewall uses NAT and the AV Edge amazingly does not support that.

Using that originally requested certificate, I had issues with federation. Troubleshooting the issue from the partner's end, we could see that their Edge server was trying to resolve the internal name of our Edge server. I could not figure out how it was getting that name to attempt to resolve until I went through all of the configuration settings and discovered that the name of the "services" on the Edge server changed from what I originally called them to whatever the subject name of the certificate applied to them was. That was disconcerting and made the purchase of a Entrust UCC certificate a waste of money since it appears that you will need a certificate for each "service" or role (internal, Web Conference, and Access) with a name that matches the FQDN of that role.

Currently, I am testing with a re-issued cert that has the sip.domain.com value in the subject of the certificate and I think it may be causing an issue with EDGE to internal front end communications.

Incidentally, I was able to get federation working by having the partner put an entry in his hosts file on his Edge server that resolved the internal name of my Edge server to the external IP. This was a temp fix as we are planning on enabling PIC (if I can ever find that form to request provisioning, don't get me started on that!!! none of the links on the forum or the LCS pages... work. I end up at the volume licensing site) Anyway, we are planning on enabling PIC and will need to have the correct FQDN and matching cert for the Public IM providers. If it turns out to be the case (and I suspect it will) that you will require a certificate for each role (and UCC certs or certs with the Subject Alternate Names you require) are not supported I will be pretty disappointed. This would be a lot less frustrating if MS documentation pointed that out explicitly.

So, long winded post, but bottom line is I would suggest checking the "Properties" of your EDGE Access server and making sure that the FQDN of the Web Conferencing role has not been changed when you applied your certificate. If it has, you cannot change the name without purchasing another certificate that has the Subject (and not Subject Alternate Name) of the FQDN of the Web Conferencing Service.

Issue resolved: Your setup may be different but here is where I had trouble and what I did to fix it.

1. The ISA 2006 reverse proxy has a bug that makes it use the first name in the SAN field of the certifcate when connecting back to the Internal OCS Front End server. In our case, this was different than the subject name of the cert and we had to change the name of the server that ISA was relaying back to. We learned of this bug in the OCS forums.

2. I originally had the subject name of the certificate on the Edge server matching the internal FQDN of the server. I am using Entrust UCCerts and only had one cert for the whole box because I do not have an internal CA. This broke federation and webconference externally because the internal name was not resolvable externally. Had cert reissued with "sip.domain.com" as the subject name and federation was fixed.

3. Finally, we are not able to take advantage of the auto config/logon sip records in our internal domain so I have to use group policy to push the internal and external server names to the communicator and Live Meeting clients. It took some experimenting with the server names and ports as I initially (and incorrectly) was using the webconference address in the LM client, not the access address. Once I changed that and specified the port (as you have done) it all worked.

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to follow up with a similar issue that I just experienced. I was actually migrating from an OCS 2007 SE pool to OCS 2007 R2 pool.

Internal Live Meeting connections would work fine.

External Live Meeting connections would result in the error: "Live meeting cannot connect to the meeting. Wait a few monments, and then try to join meeting again"

When the external client connection failed, the internal error on the OCS 2007 R2 SE server was "Failed to connect external users because the list of proxies is empty. "

Resolution

Navigate to the pool properties of OCS 2007 R2. Select the Web Conferencing Option. Once the dialog box appears, select the web conferencing edge server tab. Ensure that the correct web conferencing edge FQDN is entered (both for internal and external). Once this is set, test external connectivity again. In my case, the entry was referencing the old R1 edge.
