web portal (Pack 2016 Update 1) error - "Unspecified error" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Whe i navigate to the web portal and

    1) click on All Jobs, and click on a Job Id, the details page opens with up with first tab (Job Progress) data populated. But when I click on any of the other tabs, I get:

This error occured while accessing the following URL: http://FOO-SERVER/HpcPortal/FullJob.aspx?jobid=nnnn
The error message is: Unspecified error

    2) When the refresh icon is clicked on any page, it empties up the data on that page and just shows the page navigator 1 2 3...

    3) Lastly, can the job owner/user(s) cancel their own jobs through this interface?

    4) How can I add more columns to the view (for eg., I want to add RunAs User column)

  • Hi,

1.2. Can you tell us your cluster version?

    3. Yes. You can cancel a job by right clicking on it.

    4. I'm afraid we don't have this feature in HPC Web Portal.

Nothing happens when I right click on the job id in the HPC web portal - I'd like users to be able to cancel the jobs they submit using web portal, not job manager that is part of the HPC client tools installer - web portal access is clean and simple.

  • Hi,

Thanks you for your reply. We will try to repro your issue locally.

If you right click your job, you should see following menu. Could you try again in another browser?

  • Hi,

We can't repro locally on our side. Could you enable IIS trace accroding to this instruction and check the trace at https://localhost/hpcportal/trace.axd after you repro the issue?

  • Hi,

Have you replaced real domain and username in the trace log?

This could be caused by your user logged in not have the right privilege. If this is not the case, please apply our private build to check the detail error.

Please download Microsoft.Hpc.Web.Portal.dll and place it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft HPC Pack 2016\HpcPortal\Bin.

Please note this dll is not signed. You may need also apply following two reg files before the private bits gets to work.

    StrongName.reg and StrongName64.reg

  • Tried the new DLL, but it returns an empty page (with absolutely no contents);I have applied the registry files too to no avail.

    1) The right click context menu seems to be working now

    2) When I try to submit the 'Hello World' job from web portal:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
      at Microsoft.Hpc.Web.Portal.Common.JobManager.GetUnitTypeForCurrentBinding(PropertyId& minPropId, PropertyId& maxPropId)

      at System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button.RaisePostBackEvent(String eventArgument)
      at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

    3) When I click on 'Job Details' tab in FullJob.aspx:

    System.InvalidOperationException: binding is null

  • HI,

Is your environment a dev environment or prod environment? As we can not repro this on our side, it can be very helpful if you can provide your environment to us. If you are open to this, please contact hpcpack@microsoft.com.
