suggest letting users change post type while editing the post RRS feed

  • Question

  • Would be nice to be able to change a post from a question to a statement or vice versa after you've clicked Start New Thread and are in the thread editor.

  • A little history around why this ability to change thread type is not in the thread authoring user interface.

The older legacy forums has the notion of starting a new thread. This action takes the user to the authoring dialog (page) where users typically start typing and submit, not realizing they have an option to change the type from the default. This created a burden on some of the moderators having to deal with users that post unintentional questions. To resolve that issue we pulled the "decision" up to the start thread action forcing the user to make the choice up front. The goal was to not remove functionality but to move it and hope the user makes the decision in the beginning.

We will be implementing Change Thread Type in a future release soon. So a user would be able to change their type if they saw they had made a mistake.
