As I stated in my previous post, this computer has never been out of my house and no one but me has ever loaded or unloaded software for it.  In particular, Microsoft Office has never been reinstalled.

I bought the Microsoft Office Professional Suite 2003 almost five years ago on the Internet; it came with a sealed, hologrammed sleeve, and an original-looking (to me, anyway) CD.  It installed properly at the time, and has tested as legitimate for all Microsoft Advantage software upgrades from its installation up until the most recent Microsoft Advantage software upgrade validation.

What gives? and what are my options?

I can find no previous post from 'Messingerk' in my local history?
The Key in use on this Office installation is an Invalid Volume License Key - meaning that it is one that has been created by a hacker's KeyGen program, and is not in the database of MS's issued license Keys.

If, as you say, the accompanying disks and packaging look good, then you may qualify for the OGA Complimentary replacement program - look here http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx
