Can't validate Windows using Microsoft's tool. Does this mean it's not genuine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently, (within the past few months) Windows had begun to tell me upon boot up that my copy of Windows 7 couldn't be validated and I may be a victim of software counter fitting. I had been using this computer with Windows for a few years and never had a problem until recently. My fix to this was looking up guides on how to disable it, deleting files such as wgatray.exe and .dll as well as SLMGR/REARM a few times. All of which worked for a while, but the pop-up kept re-emerging. Do I need to purchase a new key? It came pre-installed.

Not sure if this matters but I have also uninstalled Security Essentials to have been replaced by Avast!

  • This machine appears to have been manufactured 6 months before the launch of Windows 7 - FOr which version and edition of WIndows is it licensed according to the COA sticker on the case?

Assuming it's Windows Vista, tehn you need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.
