Hello all,

I have been lurking for some time, but have yet to find a solution for this.

I have a large RAID volume (Raid Level 3) which is on a hardware PCI controller. I recently added a couple of older IDE drives (just trying out different things). Ideally, I would like to have that data stored on the RAID array not duplicated by software, and that data not stored on the RAID array backed up with software duplication. Ideally, of course, software duplication would only occur on non-raid volumes, but even if it copied over the contents of non-raid arrays onto raid arrays, it would beat the current solution which seems (according to the memory meter) to be keeping two copies of all the files, even if they are on RAID arrays.

~ Christopher
You aren't missing anything. WHS doesn't give you the ability to control how the drives in the storage pool are used. If your RAID array is in the pool, then it may be used for duplication. And yes, duplication results in keeping two copies of the file, on two separate physical drives (one of which could be your array).

Submit a suggestion in the Suggestions area for what you want. There are other people that have submitted similar suggestions. Be specific and granular in what you want. Saying that you want Home Server to support RAID is not a suggestion that the product team will spend a lot of time analyzing / processing ...saying how, why, what knobs and buttons will be exposed to the general consumer helps the team understand at a deeper level what specifically you are looking for.
