False CPU Temp and Fan Speed Errors RRS feed

  • Question

  • Have HP MediaSmart EX470 with 2nd drive for backup.  Running well, except about every couple of days, I get the following messages in tandem:

    • The HP MediaSmart Server CPU is running too hot.
    • The HP MediaSmart Server fans are not running at the proper speeds.

Please note, I don't have a problem with either of these items.  I have called HP support and they have verified that my values below are fine.  Is there something in the registry that has flipped to constantly notify/annoy me about these items?  Is there any way to reset?  Oh, and when I check to "ignore this issue" on both, it just notifies me again in a couple of days.  Here are my values:

    • Upper Fan = 1454 rpm
    • Lower Fan = 1442 rpm
    • CPU = 38 Degrees C

Love to get rid of the false messages, thanks!

  • HP released an update a couple of years ago which turns off the temperature and fan monitoring for exactly that reason: the motherboard sensors aren't reliable. You should be able to just update the HP software through the console.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
