Retaining GUIDs upgrading from CRM 4 to 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a question with respect to the upgrade process from CRM4 to CRM 2011. Where there is some backoffice integration in place, and continued operation of this will depend on all CRM records retaining the same GUIDs as they have in CRM4, can we ensure all GUIDs remain the same?

Is anyone able to advise whether GUIDs are retained as standard, or if there is a particular procedure to follow to ensure that all GUIDs are retained?

    Many Thanks

  • Hi JB,

Do a dynamic export into excel from the advance find this will create you the excel document. If you then select the whole worksheet then right click and do unhide you will find the GUID is there, just in a hidden field.

Please visit below thread to import lookups.

  • Thanks Ankit, but I suspect my question was not very clear.

We want to use the standard CRM upgrade tools to take the installation from CRM4 to CRM 2011 (both on-premise), and I would like to know whether the same GUIDs are retained automatically, or if there is a specific approach to the upgrade we must take in order to ensure the GUIDs are retained.

  • Hi JB,

I think you should get the same GUIDs as you are taking backup and restoring the Organization to 2011

Before moving to 2011 please visit below URL too. (Upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0)

  • Hi JB,

If you use the import organization option, then you do not need to do any thing additionally but if you are importing from csv then you may require some work around and should use pre generated id option to set the existing GUID.
