  • Question

  • I did a simple search on the word "async" and came up with nothing.  What am I missing?

    No Results Found For: async

    Thanks, Terrence

    Edit 1.

2 minutes later it now returns something.

Results 1-20 of about 43,600 for: async

    Edit 2.

If you search at the top of the forum it will not return anything.

If you search on "service" and get results, then search for "async" at the top of the results page, you get results.

Must be a bug in the forum software.

  • Moderator, would you please confirm this issue?  Search for async and note that no results are returned, yet we know async is a major issue on this forum.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Terrence,
I can't repro what your mentioned above on this page's Bing search.
So from which page you tested?

  • Not the bing search at the top of the page, the search box for this forum.

    go to http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithcsharp/threads

and search for async and note that noting comes up.

    Thanks, Terrence

  • looks like the forum filter is broken, if I search all forums the result show up.

  • Yes, Sheng, I know it is broken.  That is why I posted it on the forums.

Can you fix it so that it works?

Blame it on BING.   Compare this search done on BING versus the same one done on Google.

  • Hi Terrence,

As we reproed, seems the filter is working fine now. Can you please try again?   BTW , the refine search range should be the whole forums. Not only in one forum. Thanks

  • I just went to the link Terrance provided and duplicated his experience. I got no results when I searched on "async". But when I first searched on "service", then "async", I got results. Note, the search results should be forum threads, not library articles.

If you have got questions about this, just ask.

    In a perfect world,
users would never enter data in the wrong form,
files they choose to open would always exist
and code would never have bugs.

  • Hes, you will note that the second search is no longer searching the specific forum, but all of microsoft msdn.

  • Good, hopefully they will get this fixed.  There is a wealth of information in the forums if we can just search on it.

  • Terrence,

i have written a few days ago a wiki article about the search of the forum and the msdn documentation here : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/how-to-use-the-search-of-the-msdn-forum-or-the-msdn-library.aspx

    maybe you find it helpful.

  • I hardly get any results when using the search box on the Media Foundation forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/mediafoundationdevelopment/threads. I.e. search for 'memory' and get no results. Obviously broken. If I remove the forum from the 'current refinements' a forums option doesn't show up in the filter list to the left either.

    Does that answer your question?

You basically want to get it fixed, right?

Let me know, then we should get someone from the forum team to make sure the bug is logged.

    Thanks!

  • Well the bug still needs to be fixed, if you search for async on this page, you get nothing.

     http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winappswithcsharp/threads

So hopefully the bug will be logged and fixed.  Working with pre-beta software is VERY difficult and the forums are a good source of help...if you can use them.

  • Wow !

I'm experiencing the same symptoms in all the SQL Server forums. The MSDN forums used to be the single best technical resource for SQL Server and assosciated products (I'm assuming all the other Microsoft products as well).

This bug in the search completely obscures the massive amount of useful information here.

Simple key word searches don't work any more - e.g. search using terms like "Duplicate" or "Hide" in the SSRS forum and get no results.

Obviuosly something is very wrong here. I really hope this issue is addressed soon.

  • Here's another example -

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsapps

Then type anything at all in this search box and you get no hits:
