Activation Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I subscribed to love one care, and attempted to activate.  After providing a password, I could not log in.  Subsequently, the program would not accept the password.  Help!

  • Yes, I'm sure you type very well.   Smile

Some users have problems with activation if they copy and pasted their password into the initial login screen.  Also, longer & complex passwords seem to cause problems.  You may want to go to http://account.live.com and change your password . Then try activating Windows Live OneCare again.  (Try deleting cookies and temporary internet files in IE before activating a second time.)

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

  • For activation, are you using the same Windows Live ID that you used to install OneCare? Make sure you are logging into Windows as Administrator, using the same Windows Live ID that you installed OneCare with, and typing in the correct password.

  • Jennifer,

The cookie sugestion did not seem to make a difference.

Making the password shorter and 'less complex' did resolve the problem.

I went from a STRONG password to a weaker password and I am able to install & activate.

The previous password was acceptable to Hotmail and Messenger and as my LIVE login. I am wondering what is broken in OneCare that it can not allow me to be as secure as possible?

Your help was wonderfl but this is horrid and silly on the part of Microsoft.

  • The password in OneCare is limited to less than 16 characters at this time *and* the form requires that you manually type the password and not copy and paste it in. And, yes, both are "defects" in the activation process, in my opinion.
