Synctoy vs. Robocopy vs. ?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to sync a small USB hard drive (80 GB) with WHS.  It's been a while since anyone asked about Synctoy vs. the corruption bug (at least, that's what I find in search, but the search here is poor with regards to displayed information >:| ).

I see that Ken Warren prefers, or preffered, Robocopy.  Are the "issues" with Synctoy and WHS resolved?  Is there another program that you like better than Synctoy or Robocopy?

    Thanks!

  • The file corruption issue was fixed nearly a year ago, with the release of Power Pack 1. It should be safe to use SyncToy if you prefer it. I use robocopy because it's distributed with Vista, and is therefore available at no extra charge or effort. And I've used it for years.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I was aware of the fix for the file corruption but if I recall correctly there are still some potential issues with some programs, no?  (Don't worry about answering, I'll look it up.)

/google Looks like you can use Robocopy with WinXP.

    Thanks!

  • There's another utility that has some extra functions over robocopy: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.04.utilityspotlight.aspx
