Windows 7 on Parallels: after Windows update, Windows not genuine copy RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running Windows 7 on my Mac Mountain Lion, via Parallels version 8 for a couple of months. For some reason, I believe after a Windows update, Windows says I do not have a genuine copy of Windows. Nothing else has changed and I know the product key is fine (we have a product key license through the university I work at). I tried a system restore point prior to the latest update and everything seemed fine...then I did the Windows update and once again Windows is saying my copy is not genuine. This is either a Windows issue or maybe a Parallels 8 issue.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

  • Please use slmgr.vbs /ato to activate and update KMS client information in order to update values.

a KMS license must connect to your KMS service every 180 days to maintain activation. see your system administrator for assistance.

  • To properly analyze and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the diagnostic report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

    Once downloaded, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, after a short time, the Continue button will change to a Copy button.

Click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your post. (please do not edit the report.)

  • Thanks for your input. It turns out we tried a different key and it worked. Our licensing people need to talk with our desktop support! I marked you as answered even though it was something else :-)

    Thanks again!
