Towards the black-boxing of WHS - secondary servers. RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Adding storage to a WHS is still a palaver: shut down the server, open the box, install the drive, restart the server, configure the drive, etc. Wouldn't it be nice if consumers in need of extra storage could just buy a box, plug it in, and have it automagically work? A step up from NAS, if you will. You just plug it in to your home network and it detects (or you tell it) that there's already a WHS on the LAN and autoconfigures itself and starts replicating from your existing WHS. So, not only do you have additional storage but additional redundancy should one box fail.
