  • Greetings,

The individual exam that you mention, 70-634, is aPro level certification for Project Server 2007.  For Project and Project Server 2007, Microsoft offered the following exams. Please note that this set of exams will no longer be available after January 31, 2013:

    Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS):

    • 70-632, Microsoft Office Project 2007, Managing Projects
    • 70-633, Enterprise Project Management with Microsoft Office Project Server 2007
    • 70-639, Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, Configuration

    Microsoft Certified IT Pro (MCITP):

    • 70-634, Microsoft Office Project Server 2007, Managing Projects and Programs

For Project and Project Server 2010, the following exams are offered:

    • 70-178 (MCTS), Microsoft Project Server 2010, Configuration
    • 70-177 (MCTS), Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects

The Project team changed the focus for the 2010 exams a bit. There is no MCITP exam like the 70-634. There will only be the two technology specialist exams. I think that this was done to shift the focus away from some of the project management type topics that were on the 2007 exams and on to administration and maintenance.  The job role that the exam targets is the person implementing and supporting Project Server.

The client exam (70-177) is fairly similar in scope to the 70-632 client exam. The 70-178 exam combines some of the aspects of all of the 2007 exams. It's focus is more on the configuration, care and maintenance of the Project Server.  That is, how do you get it to do what your team needs and how do you keep it running.  The exams are challenging but if you are working with the products you should be fine.

You can find information about each of the exams here:  http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/view-by-technology.aspx

  • Thank you for the great response.

It seems odd that there is no PS Pro exam.  I ahve both qualifications mentioned above and was just wondering if the other would be updated.  As a newbie to PS i have rarely encountered 2007 adn so am at disadvantage with regards to the PRO

    Thansk again!

  • Keep an eye out in the fall for information about the next version of Project and Project Server.  I have not heard anything yet about exams for these products but since the next version of Office is on the way Project Server should be also.
